Cyber Adventskalendar-Day 21

Happy Wednesday Darlings!

We watched a fascinating program in our house last night that I just have to share with you.  You can watch it online and I would highly recommend that you do just that.  Today.  You can even watch it while doing any last minute gift wrapping or envelope stuffing or cookie baking.

Lidia Celebrates America. Episode 1: Holiday Tables and Traditions

In this series chef Lidia Bastianich talks about different cultures and foods as she travels across the country.  Both hubby and I loved hearing about these different traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation-sometimes 4 different generations sitting in one room.  It was heart warming to hear how the American Dream was alive and well for these people and how good food was a central part of that story.  You'll love it.

The opening sequence is about the Italian tradition called Feast Of the Seven Fishes, which I had never heard about before.  Festa dei sette pesche or La Vigilia is a feast that commemorates the wait for the midnight birth of Baby Jesus.  The tradition of eating fish comes from the Roman Catholic tradition of abstaining from meat or dairy on Fridays and specific holy days.  Seven is the traditional number of different types of fish used because it is thought to be pure and represent completion but sometimes people have 9, 11 or 13 different dishes.  Baccala (salted Cod) is one of the traditional fishes along with eels, combinations of sardines, fried smelts, calamari, shrimp, mussels, clams along with pasta, vegetables and wine.

I just love hearing about traditions that important to folks and their families.  I'm a huge believer in tradition and again, if you have crummy traditions or none to date then hop to darling!  Start your own!

Love, Love, Love.
